The instrument is capable of monitoring diverse mouse disease models using dedicated fluorescent near-infrared contrast agents (excitation at 680 or 750 nm wavelengths). Possible areas of use are: inflammatory/tumor-induced vascular leakage, receptor expression pattern, inflammatory enzyme activity, bone remodeling, etc. The same set of mice can be examined repeatedly in a noninvasive manner. The instrument is capable of 3D reconstruction of fluorophore distribution, and absolute (picomolar) quantification of the amount of fluorescent probes. Combination of fluorescent tomographic and structural CT-scans (multimodal image reconstruction) is also possible.
