The University of Pécs is considered amongst the largest institution on higher education throughout the region and is currently characterized as a genuine knowledge factory. Its predominant objective is the discovery of creative and intelligent solutions in response to scientific and innovation challenges and remains devoted to spearheading the initiative in progressive, knowledge-building processes.
The Szentágothai Research Centre (SzRC) is the scientific flagship and excellence centre of our University that supports the R + D activities with unique professional community and high standard, state of art facilities. Our aim is to develop the research medical biology, natural sciences, engineering and IT; encourage national and international cooperation, networking and provide wide-range of services.
In the SzRC there are 21 research groups and more than 200 researchers whose aim is to in international high-quality papers, strengthen the industrial cooperation, increase the grant application activity and competitiveness also in the international scene, involve young researchers, participate actively in gradual, post-gradual education and in the education of young people. The priority grants of the University are also realized in the Research Centre.
In order to operate and develop the research infrastructure efficiently core facilities have been established that have significant scientific, innovation and collaborative potential. As a result engagement in research networks and the increase in grant application activity are intensifying.
The SzRC also actively participates in the education of young people, as a new program supporting young researchers, called "Szentágothai Talent Support Program", was launched in 2015 with the joint leadership of the management, PTE Rector and PTE Chancellery. With the support of young researchers with outstanding performance, the program is committed to promoting the provision of scientific careers. The program takes place in three-year cycles, where three young talented researchers are given the opportunity to pursue their scientific activities within the SzRC.
