The principal aim of this group is the organisation and operation of cutting-edge maintenance of small laboratory animals at the Szentágothai Research Centre. The SzRC Animal Facility operates at the minimal disease (MD) hygiene level, comprising one holding room for rats and two for mice, with a total of eleven individually ventilated cage racks. At the time of writing, the facility houses animals for nine research groups based at the SzRC. The animals are maintained daily, including feeding, watering and bedding, as well as undergoing daily health monitoring. The highly trained staff of the Animal Facility are fully compliant with individual maintenance protocols and monitoring, in accordance with research requirements.
Laboratory Infrastructure and Primary Instruments
The laboratory is equipped with the following infrastructure and instruments:
For rats, a normal light-dark cycle (light on from 0700 to 2100 hours) is maintained. Individual maintenance protocols and monitoring are in place. Individual health monitoring is also provided. Endoparasite and ectoparasite treatment and monitoring are conducted. Upon arrival, the animals are checked in routinely. Animal transportation within Hungary is conducted using a specialized vehicle and trained personnel on call duty.
