A Pécsi Tudományegyetem Transzlációs Idegtudományi Kutatócsoportja 2012-ben alakult Dr. Hernádi István vezetésével.

Kutatócsoportunk elsősorban a neurokognitív zavarok (demenciák) preklinikai modelljeinek fejlesztésével, a betegségek sejtes és magatartási szintű folyamatainak vizsgálatával foglalkozik. Kutatásainkat négy laboratóriumban folytatjuk: a sejtélettani (elektrofiziológiai) és a humán pszichofiziológiai laborok a Természettudományi Karon (TTK), a kisállat-magatartásfarmakológiai labor a Szentágothai Kutatóközpontban, a főemlős magatartásfarmakológiai labor pedig a Grastyán E. Transzlációs Kutatási központban található. Laboratóriumainkban ún. transzlációs kutatásokat végzünk, melyekkel a molekuláris folyamatoktól az emberi magatartásig vizsgálhatjuk az idegrendszeri működéseket. Preklinikai állatmodelljeink között szerepelnek pl. a természetes öregedéses vagy a traumás agysérüléses modellek. A magatartási változásokat a kutatócsoportban sikeresen továbbfejlesztett tesztcsomagokban vizsgáljuk (pl. új tárgy felismerési teszt, víziútvesztő, pszichomotoros vigilancia teszt, páros asszociációs tanulási és késleltetett minta-felismerési feladatok). Eredményeink mind az alapkutatásban mind a gyógyszerkutatásban hasznosítjuk. Fő távlati célunk a betegségek hátterében zajló eddig még nem ismert mechanizmusok feltárása, illetve olyan biomarkerek azonosítása, amelyek később mind a kognitív zavarok diagnosztizálásban, mind kezelésében és új gyógyszerjelöltek fejlesztésében is kiemelkedően fontos szerepet tölthetnek be.

A kutatócsoport munkáját négy laboratóriumban végzi:

1. Kisállat-magatartás labor (SZKK): általános aktivitás vizsgálata, porond-teszt, emelt keresztpalló teszt, forszírozott úszás teszt, táplálékválasztásos feladatok, komputervezérelt operáns magatartási tesztek, neurotoxikus lézió, reverzibilis inaktiváció, receptor-ágensek szisztémás/centrális alkalmazása.

2. In vivo celluláris neurofiziológia labor (TTK): extracelluláris egysejtelvezetés, sztereotaxiás berendezés, biológiai erősítők (feszültség és árammérés), konstans áramgenerátorok, (mikroiontoforézis).

3. NHP kutató labor a Grastyán Endre Transzlációs Kutatási központban

4. Humán pszichofiziológiai labor (TTK): nagyteljesítményű 32 csatornás biológiai erősítő (EEG, EMG, ECG, EOG), komputerizált magatartási tesztcsomagok. Alapkutatás: arcfelismerés idegrendszeri folyamatai. Alkalmazott kutatás: nem-ionizáló elektromágneses terek hatása a kognitív folyamatokra.
